Secondary Mathematics Instructional Coach

 

Overview: 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Secondary Mathematics Instructional Coach to support and enhance the teaching practices of our secondary mathematics educators. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, providing guidance, resources, and professional development to ensure the delivery of high-quality, standards-aligned instruction. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including modeling, feedback, co-teaching, support for coaching cycles, and curricular development. Within this role, the instructional coach will also support the fidelity and alignment of Mathematics professional learning communities with district expectations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Modeling and Demonstration: 

  • Demonstrate effective teaching methods through classroom modeling, showcasing best practices in secondary mathematics instruction.
  • Provide exemplary lessons and instructional strategies that align with current educational standards.

Feedback and Reflection:

  • Conduct regular classroom observations to provide constructive feedback to teachers on instructional techniques, classroom management, and content delivery.
  • Collaborate with teachers to establish reflective practices, fostering continuous improvement in teaching strategies.

Co-Teaching:

  • Engage in co-teaching opportunities to support teachers in implementing effective instructional methods.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive teaching environment through team teaching and shared responsibilities.

Coaching Cycles:

  • Guide teachers through coaching cycles to set professional goals, plan instructional strategies, and assess the impact on student learning.
  • Provide ongoing support and feedback throughout coaching cycles, promoting continuous improvement in teaching practices.

Standards Aligned Instruction:

  • Stay current on state and national mathematics education standards.
  • Assist teachers in aligning curriculum and instructional practices with standards to ensure student success.

Engaging Lesson Design:

  • Collaborate with teachers to design and implement engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Integrate technology, hands-on experiences, and innovative teaching methodologies into lesson plans to enhance student engagement.

Teacher and School Support:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to teachers in addressing individualized professional development needs.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to identify and address broader school improvement goals related to mathematics instruction.

Curricular Work:

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of secondary mathematics curriculum.
  • Assist in the selection and adaptation of instructional materials to ensure alignment with curriculum goals and standards.

Professional Learning

  • Design meaningful professional learning using current evidence-based practices that align to adult learning theory.
  • Facilitate workshops and professional development sessions for mathematics teachers.
  • Stay abreast of current educational research and best practices to inform professional development offerings.

Data Analysis

  • Collaborate with content directors and team members to analyze student data to inform professional learning needs, curricular and instructional decision-making.
  • Collaborate with teachers to analyze student assessment data and inform instructional decision-making.
  • Utilize data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and areas of success. 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Mathematics Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification with a focus on secondary mathematics.
  • Extensive teaching experience in secondary mathematics.
  • Proven success in instructional coaching or teacher leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of current mathematics education standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the school administration.
