Reading Design Coach 

 

Reports to: Principal 

 

Purpose: The Instructional Reading Design Coach will support all K-5 staff in the implementation of the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Literacy Plan. The Coach will work directly with teachers to provide on-going embedded professional development, classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one feedback with support. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide reading instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret data, and use it to guide instructional decisions. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 5+ years proven successful elementary classroom experience 
  • Deep knowledge of researched based reading, writing and literacy development, and successful implementation in a classroom environment
  • Solid interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching
  • Experience in delivering effective professional development 
  • Ability to create and conduct customized professional development 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Master’s degree preferred 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide personalized, classroom-based support to implement the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Literacy Plan. This will include: 
    • Develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and professional research and reading 
    • Coaching and modeling of best teaching practices through demonstration lessons 
  • Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop instructional plans in response to determined student needs
  • Collaborate with the school’s administration to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results for reading 
  • Plan, develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and professional research and reading
  • Other duties as identified by the district administration in support of the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Literacy Plan

 

North Carolina ESL K-12 Licensure Preferred
