Technology Support Technician III

 

Reports to: Executive Director of Technology

 

Purpose: 

The Technology Support Technician Level 3 plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the district’s network infrastructure. This position focuses on designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), network hardware, and related systems to support district-wide connectivity and technology initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in computer science, networking, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred) or equivalent training and experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in network support, administration, or related technical roles.
  • Industry certifications preferred: Cisco (CCNA), Microsoft, Palo Alto, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking protocols and systems (e.g., LAN, WAN, VLAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Proficiency in network hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (e.g., routers, switches, wireless access points).
  • Familiarity with VoIP, CCTV, and network security solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate understanding of wired and wireless Ethernet networking technologies (e.g., VLANs, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Spanning Tree, Port Channeling).
  • Ability to, deploy, and maintain secure and efficient network systems.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools and network performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and system recovery procedures.
  • Ability to lead projects, coordinate with contractors, and provide technical training to staff.
  • Strong documentation skills for network configurations, procedures, and maintenance logs.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining district-wide LAN/WAN systems and intranet connectivity.
  • Configure and manage network hardware, including switches, routers, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Install and maintain network infrastructure to support VoIP, Wi-Fi, security systems, and services.
  • Collaborate with contractors and staff to ensure seamless deployment of networking projects.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for network-related issues, resolving escalated tickets efficiently.
  • Implement and monitor security protocols to safeguard district networks.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing standards and policies for network security and usage.
  • Conduct system audits to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the district, offering training and guidance to technical staff.
  • Participate in technology planning and assist with the selection of network hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with district leadership to align network initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Maintain detailed records of network configurations, installations, and maintenance activities.
  • Provide regular reports on network performance and project status to supervisors.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing while performing technical tasks.
  • Visual acuity for analyzing data, troubleshooting hardware, and reviewing technical documentation.

 

Term of Employment: 12 months

Salary Schedule: State Salary Scale Grade S
