Transportation Activity Bus-CDL Manager

12-Month Position, 8-hours a day

Pay Grade: L

 

 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position involves responsibility for managing all activity bus scheduling.  Additionally, the Activity Bus-CDL Manager recruits potential bus drivers; schedules CDL classes.  The Activity Bus-CDL Manager reports to the Transportation Director and works in partnership with others in the Transportation Department and school district to support a sound transportation program while following federal, state, and local guidelines.  

 

 

Work Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for scheduling trips and assigning buses for all schools via Travel Tracker
  • Notify schools when Activity Buses are returned dirty or damaged
  • Ensuring all School Bus/Activity Bus Drivers hold a valid CDL and possess a School Bus Certification
  • Assist when schools have questions about the Travel Tracker Process
  • Assist in securing drivers for field trips when needed
  • Maintain an updated spread sheet and hard copy file with all CDL drivers’ information that includes medical card expirations and any cancellations
  • Responsible for hiring process for new drivers. Serve as a liaison between Transportation and HR. Ensure all drivers are made aware of policies and procedures (Bus driver handbook).
  • Work with DMV to schedule multiple in person CDL classes/virtual CDL classes throughout the year.
  • Assist schools in securing approved charter bus providers. Maintain yearly records of insurance coverage on approved charter bus providers. Ensure approval for overnight and out-of-state trips
  • Responsible for ensuring schools are invoiced for the use of Buses
  • Posting invoices to Travel Tracker once invoices are paid
  • Notifying schools of non-payment
  • Monthly, Yearly Mileage and billing reports
  • Answering incoming calls
  • On call for afterhours and weekend Activity Bus issues

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Must hold a CDL with school bus passenger endorsement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Skill in the use of computers and standard office equipment
  • Working knowledge of school guidelines and BOE policies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the public

 

 

Working Conditions:

  • This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
  • Must be able to step up and down repeatedly and get in and out of vehicles.
  • Work regularly requires standing, walking, pushing, pulling and repetitive motions or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires sitting.
  • Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and/or around Hazardous Materials such as: automotive batteries, automatic transmission fluid, anti-freeze, etc.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (nonweather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather).
  • Exposure to the risk of electrical shock
  • Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
