Specially Designed Instructional Coach
Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children
Purpose: The Specially Designed Instructional Coach will support K-12 staff in the implementation of Rowan-Salisbury School System's Exceptional Children's Department and the implementation of specially designed instruction. The Coach will work directly with teachers to provide on-going embedded professional development, classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one feedback with support. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers' ability to integrate specially designed instruction with content that builds students' sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will work with district-based staff, administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret data, and use it to guide instructional decisions.
Qualifications
- Valid NC Teacher License in the area of Special Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Master's degree in Special Education preferred
- 5+ years proven successful classroom experience
- Deep knowledge of specially designed instruction in the areas of literacy, mathematics, executive functioning and daily living skills
- Solid interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching
- Experience in delivering effective professional development
- Ability to create and conduct customized professional development
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to provide coaching, modeling and feedback
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide personalized, classroom-based support to implement specially designed instruction on IEP goals. This will include but is not limited to:
- Development, implementation and leading of research based professional development opportunities focused on specially designed instruction within content
- Coaching, modeling and providing feedback for best teaching practices through demonstration lessons
- Coaching and implementation of co-teaching of specially designed instruction
- Guide teachers to collect and analyze data, as well as, develop instructional plans in response to identified student needs
- Collaborate with District EC staff to design, implement, and assess effectiveness of specially designed instruction
- Other duties and responsibilities as identified by the district administration in support of the Rowan-Salisbury School System's Strategic Plan
Term of Employment: 10 months
